AWCA RAP (Registered Apprenticeship Program) Draft

AWCA and Careers Next Generation have developed a sports style RAP Draft to introduce high school students to a career in LISM. AWCA Members have the unique opportunity to meet numerous students in 5 minute “speed interviews” hosted by Careers Next Generation.

After the students leave, a sports style draft is held and Contractor Members select and hire students, some of which return to school but remain possible future apprentices. Some of the candidates each year will be graduating and moving into the workforce looking for a full time career.

Careers Next Generation pre-qualifies the students as interested in LISM training. CAREERS supports Alberta ‘s Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP), which allows high school students to begin their trades apprenticeship, earn income, and academic credits while working toward graduation. Careers also supports a similar trade introduction program for students that have graduated but are under 21. Financial incentives may be available through Careers Next Generation or other organizations, for more information contact us or CAREERS.
