Two new Members “vote in” awards for:

  • Manufacturers Excellence
  • Suppliers excellence

Voting will be held in October.

 

Also open for first time submissions:

  • Emerging Contractor – in business for minimum 2 years but not more than 5
  • Community/Charity – nominated by a Member based on specific community/charitable contributions
  • Education – nominated by a Member based on specific contributions to education to the AB wall & ceiling industry
  • Industry Advancement – nominated by a Member based on specific contributions to advancement of the AB wall & ceiling industry with the general public, government, other industries, or other associations
  • Collaboration & Teamwork – nominated by a Member based on a specific successful project requiring a high degree of collaboration and teamwork.
  • Apprentice of the Year – nominated by a Journeyman based on excellence in completion of blue book criteria by level.

AWCA People Awards

AWCA recognizes individuals whose exemplary contributions have contributed significantly to the advancement of the wall and ceiling industry in Alberta.  These awards are presented and celebrated to deserving individuals at an annual awards ceremony in December.

They are called “People Awards” as the awards themselves are named after AWCA members whose impact on the association has been immediate and long serving.

The awards may be presented to individuals outside of the AWCA membership when their contributions have been extraordinary and exceeded the criteria and had a lasting positive impact on the industry.

John Jager Award for Lifetime Achievement

The John Jager Award was created in the fall of 2006 by the AWCA Board of Directors in recognition of Mr. John Jager’s outstanding dedication and contributions to the AWCA. Mr. Jager has been involved in the wall and ceiling industry for many years, serving on the Board of Directors as well as President. He was a significant supporter and benefactor of the industry and of the AWCA. Mr. Jager demonstrated professionalism in all he did for our industry.

This award honors individuals who have made significant, enduring contributions to the wall & ceiling industry in Alberta over the course of their careers. It is recognition of the dedication, leadership, and lasting impact of industry veterans whose work has shaped the industry and inspired future generations.

Eligibility:

• The nominee must be a current member in good standing or a former member of the Alberta Wall and Ceiling Association.
• Open to professionals with a minimum of 25 years of experience in the industry.

Elwood Hillman Award for Mentorship

The Elwood Hillman Award was created in the fall of 2003 in recognition of Mr.Elwood Hillman’s outstanding dedication and contributions to the AWCB. Mr. Hillman was active in managing the Association office, growing our membership, coordinating our social events and facilitating our industry’s advancement through education and seminars. Prior to joining the AWCB, Mr Hillman worked for Construction Labour Relations Association negotiating management rights into labour agreements including the Plasterer’s and Interior Systems Mechanics agreements.

This award recognizes mentors who have significantly contributed to the professional development and growth of their mentees, fostering a culture of learning, support, and excellence within the wall & ceiling industry in Alberta.

Eligibility:

• The nominee must be a current member in good standing or a former member of the Alberta Wall and Ceiling Association.
• Open to professionals in the industry who have actively mentored colleagues, students, or emerging professionals.

Kel Young Award for Emerging Professional

Some years ago our industry was fortunate to have a very active and dedicated member working and promoting our industry by the name of Mr. Kel Young. Mr. Young was so dedicated to our industry that in January 1983 the Provincial Board of Directors decided to honour him by offering an award in his name to recognize his outstanding achievement and contribution. This prestigious and coveted recognition is a Provincial Alberta Wall & Ceiling Association Industry Award. When Mr. Young was not busy dedicating his time to our industry, he spent time enjoying his hobby of repairing pocket watches which is why the recipient of the Kel Young receives a pocket watch.

This award recognizes the exceptional achievements and potential of early-career professionals in the wall & ceiling industry. It celebrates individuals who have demonstrated significant contributions to their projects, companies, and the broader construction community, showcasing leadership, innovation, and dedication to excellence.

Eligibility:

• The nominee must be a current member in good standing or a former member of the Alberta Wall and Ceiling Association.
• Open to professionals with up to 5 years of experience in the industry..

AWCA Distinguished Volunteer Award

This award honors those whose volunteer work exemplifies dedication, leadership, and a commitment to making a positive impact, setting a standard for volunteerism within the AB wall & ceiling industry.

Eligibility:

• The nominee must be actively involved in the AWCA.
• The nominee must be a person deemed to have demonstrated a significant contribution to the betterment of others in the Alberta Wall and Ceiling Association.

For ALL:

The Nomination form must be completed and submitted by October 31.

The AWCA Board of Directors will select the recipient from the nominations submitted.

The award will be presented at an AWCA Awards Ceremony event in December.
